How to Prepare for a Mobile Notary Visit in DeSoto County, MS

March 10, 2026·4 min read

Booking a mobile notary is the easy part — we come to you! But knowing how to prepare for your appointment ensures everything goes smoothly and your documents get notarized correctly the first time. At On The Way Mobile Notary LLC, we want every visit to be fast, efficient, and stress-free.

Here is exactly what you need to do before your mobile notary arrives.

1

Have Your Valid Photo ID Ready

This is the most important step. Mississippi law requires that a notary verify your identity before notarizing any document. You will need to present one of the following:

  • A valid driver's license
  • A valid state-issued ID card

Your ID must be current and not expired. If you do not have a valid ID, a credible identifying witness who personally knows you may be able to verify your identity — just let us know in advance.

2

Have Your Documents Ready but Do Not Sign Them Yet

This is a very common mistake. Do not sign your documents before the notary arrives. The notary must witness your signature in person for the notarization to be valid. If you have already signed, the document may need to be reprinted.

Have your documents printed, complete, and ready — just leave the signature line blank.

3

Make Sure All Signers Are Present

If a document requires more than one signature, all signers must be present at the time of the appointment. Each person will need to show their valid photo ID as well.

4

Know What Type of Notarization You Need

Not sure what type of notarization your document requires? Here are the two most common:

Acknowledgment:You confirm that you signed the document willingly. You do not have to sign in front of the notary — but you must acknowledge the signature.
Jurat:You sign the document in front of the notary and swear or affirm that the contents are true.

If you are unsure, check the bottom of your document for a notary certificate block — it will usually indicate which type is needed. You can also contact us and we will help you figure it out.

5

Choose a Comfortable Location

Since we come to you, pick a location where you have a flat surface to sign — a kitchen table, desk, or conference room works great. We serve all of DeSoto County, Mississippi, including Southaven, Olive Branch, Hernando, Horn Lake, Nesbit, Walls, and Eudora.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Once we arrive, here is what happens:

We verify your identity using your photo ID
We review the document to confirm the notarization type
You sign the document in our presence (if required)
We apply our official notary stamp and signature
You receive your notarized document — done!

Most appointments take just 15 to 20 minutes from start to finish.
